Cramant – the best producers to know

Decanter, July 2020, by Charles Curtis MW

JVignier
Nathalie Vignier is a 10th generation grower based in Cramant, making delicious wines with her collaborator Sebastian Nickel and her brother Jean. The wines under the JVignier label are all top-notch, particularly the Silexus Sezannensis from the Côte de Sézanne, the parcellaire Les Longues Verges from Cramant and the Cuvée Éphémère (abbreviated QVFMR), which changes every year.

J.Vignier Les Longues Verges Grand Cru Extra Brut 2012
Superbly elegant. Initial aromas of green apple and toasted brioche. Approachable and seductively textured on the palate, the fine bubbles give a creamy feel that lasts through the lingering finish. Fruit for the bottling comes from “Les Longues Verges” in a parcel that overlaps Cramant and neighbouring Chouilly. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and aged five years on the lees before giving a very low dosage, producing a delightfully clean and crisp result. Drink 2020 – 2030.
